This course introduces the Understanding Infant Adoption 7 (UIA 7) curriculum and helps trainers prepare to offer the UIA 7 curriculum to healthcare professionals.

Prerequisite:

To sign up for this train-the-trainer course, you’ll need a solid understanding of the UIA 7 curriculum. That’s why you must first complete either the 2.5-hour, 4.5-hour, or 6.5-hour version of the training to be ready for this course.

This 1.5-hour course on Adoption-Sensitive Clinical Care features our most streamlined version of the Understanding Infant Adoption 7 curriculum designed for hospital-based staff.

This shorter-format training will introduce hospital-based staff to the basics of offering adoption as an option in pregnancy counseling, state and federal adoption laws, adoption types and practices, making appropriate referrals for patients considering adoption, and adoption-sensitive hospital policy.

Participants will learn from a mix of reading sections; interactive activities; prompts for reflection; vignettes and case studies; and videos.

While anyone is welcome to participate in this training, we specifically recommend the 1.5-hour version for: 
  • OB/GYNs
  • Nurse-Midwives
  • Labor & Delivery Nurses
  • Emergency Medicine Physicians
  • Pediatricians
  • Chaplains
  • Anyone who wants to learn the basics of adoption-sensitive clinical care for expectant parents facing an unintended pregnancy

This 2.5-hour course on Adoption-Sensitive Clinical Care features the Understanding Infant Adoption 7 curriculum designed for hospital-based staff.
 
This training will inform hospital-based staff about nondirective counseling of the adoption option, state and federal adoption laws, adoption types and practices, making appropriate referrals for patients considering adoption, and considerations for hospital adoption policies and procedures.
 
Participants will learn from a mix of reading sections; interactive activities; prompts for reflection; vignettes and case studies; and videos from adoption experts, healthcare professionals, and birth parents.

While anyone is welcome to participate in this training, we specifically recommend the 2.5-hour version for:
  • Nurse-Midwives
  • Labor & Delivery Nurses
  • Perinatal Social Workers
  • Other Hospital Social Workers
  • Anyone who wants to learn the basics of adoption-sensitive clinical care for expectant parents facing an unintended pregnancy

This training will explore offering adoption as an option in pregnancy counseling, how the adoption process works in the hospital setting, state and federal adoption laws, making appropriate referrals for patients considering adoption, providing appropriate support and care to those patients implementing an adoption plan, and adoption-sensitive hospital policy. 

Participants will learn from a mix of reading sections as well as a variety of interactive activities, prompts for reflection, vignettes, and videos.

While anyone is welcome to participate in this training length, we specifically recommend the 4.5-hour version for:

  • Perinatal Social Workers
  • Pediatric Social Workers
  • Others interested in a more advanced examination of Understanding Infant Adoption

Participants will learn from an engaging mix of reading sections and handouts, as well as a variety of interactive activities, prompts for reflection, vignettes, and videos.

While anyone is welcome to participate in this training length, we specifically recommend the 6.5-hour version for:

  • Perinatal Social Workers
